For Charlie Wood, film, writing, and the art of storytelling have always been passions of his. Based in Central London, Charlie works as an executive producer and promotional consultant and has played an instrumental role in the development of several successful film projects.
After working in the marketing and sales industry for the majority of his professional career, Charlie decided to follow his true passion and a pursue a career in film production. He has since amassed over five years of experience in the film industry as an executive producer, specialising in the type of lower-budget independent productions that Great Britain so excels at.
His favorite production to date remains Mad To Be Normal as it is able to delicately approach the sensitive subject matter of Mental Health. The protagonist, R.D. Laing (played incredibly by David Tennant) was a highly influential character. He challenged psychiatric diagnosis, arguing that current diagnosis (mid-1960’s) of mental disorder was outmoded and in some cases barbaric (Electrocution Therapy being a prime example). Hence, according to Laing, psychiatry was founded on a false epistemology.
With a passion for the art of storytelling, Charlie Wood has enjoyed the opportunity to play a role in film production and tell stories that truly resonate with audiences. He particularly admires the work and teachings of Robert McKee and has attended many of his workshops and courses around the world. Furthermore, his favorite director is currently Wes Anderson while his favorite writers are Matt Berry and Arthur Matthews who created the show Toast of London, which truly captures the genius of these two artists.
He credits his success to his ability to build successful relationships with the creative artists with whom he works as well as those on the investment end.
Over the course of his career in film, Charlie Wood has learned firsthand just how challenging the industry is and difficult it can be to investing in a film. Charlie and his team look over hundreds of scripts before offering one to the general public to invest in. It can be difficult to convey to many potential customers just how hard it is to secure the financing capable of turning an idea into a reality.
Talking about the film industry in his own words, he says “My team and I will continue to offer excellent film vehicles and always offer the chance to meet me, the directors we work with, arrange set visits, and private screenings. Essentially, I’ll do everything within my means to make people feel as comfortable as possible.”
